My institution (Ohio State) is relatively new to Canvas. We piloted for a year, but just made the system available to all users this week. I have a question from a faculty member and don't really know how to answer it, nor can I seem to frame an effective search for an answer if one already exists.
My faculty member (Rephael Wenger) would like to gain a better understanding / participate in a discussion about the relationship between Assignments and Grades. Specifically, he states "One should be able to enter items such as exams in the gradebook without making them assignments." (As backstory, we are coming from D2L / Brightspace, in which the Gradebook is a stand-alone tool. Any grade item can be linked to an assignment or activity, but it is never required.)
Can someone step in to discuss the thought behind the design that has these two tools always linked?
