Hello
I was reading the update notice for 6-4-16 and was curious about the change to course invitations, specifically "When an institution disabled course invitations..." I didnt know this was possible. I've searched the community postings and our account admin settings, but haven't found where this permission is located so I can disable invitations. Can someone direct me to this?
Thanks!
Hi, Tiffany,
The Invitation Preview feature allows as student to view the course before actually accepting the course invitation. They see a message at the top of the screen that says something like "You can look around but you'll have to accept the course invitation before you can participate." And then they can either click the Accept or Deny button depending on whether they accept or not. So think of Invitation Previews as a preview for the course itself.
However, if Invitation Previews are disabled, when students view the course they automatically accept the course invitation and don't have to do anything to join the course. If they try to click the link to the course, they have already joined it. Usually the Course Invitation feature is enabled for accounts, but your Customer Success Manager can turn it off if you prefer so that students always automatically get enrolled in the courses.
Just to clarify course enrollment invitations, every course enrollment added manually through the Canvas interface receives a course invitation email. The only way to "turn it off" is by adding students via SIS. SIS enrollments do not send course invitation emails.
As part of some future documentation updates to enrollments, we'll be including mention of the small differences with the Invitation Previews feature when students view a course enrollment invitation.
Hope that helps!
Erin
