We're sort of sticklers about using Modules rather than stuffing everything into sidebar options. That contextualizes the content and creates a more natural curricular workflow. We liken the sidebar heavy course design to the way in which Blackboard was once designed. Students were forever seeking out sidebar items that were decoupled from the primary content. However, it appears that with the new UI students do not see Discussion alerts on the cards if the forum is embedded into a Module. One student indicated that by adding discussions into Modules, it "makes it harder for students to know when there's a new discussion." It seems we're going in circles.
My question(s): 1) What are best practices on your campus? 2) Without the card "alert" (badge), do students actually see any sort of discussion indicator (other than a notification in Email which may not come for a day or more)? My wish would be for Instructure to trigger the alert badge no matter where the forum lives in the course design.
