Groups entry not removed for student

I've recently been testing out the group feature in Canvas and I noticed that if I deleted the groups as an instructor, it still appears in the student's list of groups in Canvas.  If I click on the group name as a student, it gives me the error page saying that I don't have access to that content.  As the student, I even tried logging out and logging back in and there was no change.  Does it take some time for Canvas to refresh and they will go away on their own or is this not working correctly?
