How do I know when someone replies to my discussion?
Alicia, I'm not sure if you're the teacher or the student in this scenario, but I'll try to explain for both.
Student - if you post to a discussion and someone replies you will not be notified specifically about someone replying to your reply. Yet, you can subscribe to the discussion and then you'll be notified every time anyone posts to the discussion; side note, you can choose how often you get the notifications - ASAP, daily, weekly, or none. Here are two guides that you can use to set this up:
Instructor - if you create a discussion and want to know if students have responded to your discussion then use the following guides to make sure you know when students post to your discussion:
If you're asking in reference to only getting notifications if students reply to a post you've made to a discussion, then no, it's an all or none type of thing. You can get notified if anyone posts to a discussion or you can choose not to get any notifications; side note, you can choose how often you get the notifications - ASAP, daily, weekly, or none.
Hope this helps!
I'm a student. I've subscribed to get notifications, but it isn't helpful when wanting to know if someone replied to me. Getting notifications each time every other student responds the the class discussion is pointless when I'm have a discussion on a topic with only a few students and I need to keep up with the conversation.
Unfortunately Canvas does not have that option. It's an all or nothing type thing.
There was a feature idea for what you are wanting - Canvas notification when someone replies directly to a posting added by that user. - but it was archived due to lack of votes. Yet, you can resubmit it as a new feature idea - How do I create a new feature idea? - just makes sure to reference the original idea.
