We need to be able to see who is not using Canvas as we extend our rollout to replace our existing LMS.
You can use the "Unused Courses" report with one caveat; it won't list the instructors. You would have to look those up or combine with SIS data or one of the other reports available for an account to get that information. Check out How do I view reports for an account? for more information on these reports.
Hi Jeff Meier -
Someone with higher authority than I have may choose to move this discussion to the Administrator's group (that you should join if you're not in it already, by the way...just click GROUPS and then VIEW ALL GROUPS). But since I assume you're an administrator, it can be a bit of a loaded question as what one's definition of "not using Canvas" may be! But let me offer a temporary answer. Assuming you do not automatically publish all courses and let instructors publish their own course sites, there IS an easily obtainable report if you head to your admin access and then click SETTINGS on the left menu. From there, click the REPORTS tab and you will see one called UNPUBLISHED COURSES that works as named. When you click the Configure.. button you can select a term and it returns with a listing of all courses never published. Bear in mind that this could, depending on your SIS integration (if any) include courses that were cancelled due to lack of enrollment that may still be out there. I imagine better minds than mine may even have tried a few APIs that can do this.
EDIT - (Oh, and what Adam Williams said...who posted while I was typing my long-winded reply!)
Can you give some criteria to clarify what you mean by "unused"?
This is very ambiguous.
I have written an algorithm to iterate through all courses in a semester to harvest grades for the SIS.
Doing this requires a combination of API calls. If you can define "unused" I can try to figure out which calls might satisfy your requirements.
Jeff Meier -- Instructor Insight from The specified item was not found. gives you a graphical dashboard with exactly this information. We'll show you during our call next week. Thanks!
