As the instructor I would like to add my biography on the people link. However, I couldn't find an edit button. Can we edit our own people page? Thanks.
Dan, you don't actually do it through People, you do it through your Profile Settings. See the following guide for specific directions - How do I edit my profile in my user account?
Yet, if you aren't able to do this/don't have these settings it could be that your Institution doesn't have it turned on. In that case you'd want to contact the Canvas admins at your Institution to see if they would be willing to turn this feature on.
Hope this helps!
You can also create a page named "Biogs" with a link in your home page.
To create it, insert a single-column table with as many rows as students, plus one for you.
Populate your row as instructor with a photo of yourself and your biography. (In a single cell, key in your biography and insert a photo; place your photo in the upperleft corner.) Populate the remaining rows with the names of your students.
(To ensure a full roster make the biogs gradable and with a due date; require a 200-word max for biogs.)
As submissions come in you may want to edit the biogs for consistent capitalizations (e.g., of degrees, programs, work-related roles). You may also want to crop the photos to eliminate distracting parts.
Obviously, this takes work on your part. The benefit is that everyone can associate a face and personal information with everyone else. Sometimes in the discussion postings students will mention the job or town of the person they're replying to.
