Mastery Grading + Grading Schemes

Hello Community!

TL; DR - Is there a way to separate mastery grades from points?

In one of my courses (after a conversations with my students), I am going leverage standards-based grading. They want to be rewarded for timely effort with a complete/incomplete in the formal gradebook, but I want to provide them detailed feedback using mastery grading so I can measure their growth in the course over time.

Right now, I have several outcomes entered into Canvas. When I link them to a rubric, points are linked between the rubric and the measured outcomes. This makes sense. However, even with the complete/incomplete grading scheme, the points will be reported back to the standard gradebook.

Is there a way to unlink outcomes from formal points? I'd love to use outcomes to provide feedback to students, but sometimes mastery doesn't align with effort, investment, revision, and growth.
