How do I add an outcome to an existing quiz???? Help please
NICOLE, you can align an outcome with a question bank (see How do I align an outcome with a question bank? ), but not to a specific quiz. You can also add a rubric that you do not use for grading to a quiz (How do I add a rubric to a quiz? ), so if you created a rubric with a single outcome in it, the outcome artifacts will be associated with the quiz should you choose to use the quiz rubric for outcomes measurement purposes.
So if the questions are created , I move them to a question bank and tie an
outcome to them, how do I make outcomes show up on existing quizzes
containing those questions?

NICOLE, outcomes do not show up on quizzes, only on question banks. Any mastery measurements you perform will be on the questions in the bank, not on the quizzes. Please refer to How do I align an outcome with a question bank? .
Right, I've added outcomes to question banks. Do I then create new quizzes
to have students access the questions tied to outcomes?

Yes, NICOLE, after you have aligned outcomes to your question banks, you will be able to create quizzes that use the questions in those banks, and can use the Learning Mastery Gradebook to assess students' mastery of those outcomes. You'll see more about that in How do I use the Learning Mastery Gradebook to view outcome results in a course?
In this regard, I also want to mention that more granular alignment of outcomes to items (questions), not just to banks, is most likely going to be a part of the massive quiz refactor project The specified item was not found.. NICOLE, if you're not yet familiar with that project, you might want to have a look at the description and discussion surrounding it, and "follow" it to your inbox to be informed of its progress through the development cycle.
Right. But will the outcomes carry over to questions already placed into
(Not sure if it makes sense)

Were you able to find an answer to your question? I am going to go ahead and mark this question as answered because there hasn't been any more activity in a while so I assume that you have the information that you need. If you still have a question about this or if you have information that you would like to share with the community, by all means, please do come back and leave a comment.
WHile I found an answer I don't like it. LOL.
Nicole, I am having the same problem. My department (I teach middle school English) has just started using quizzes on Canvas this year. We didn't know that we were supposed to make "question banks" and just made the questions as we made the quizzes. Now that I learned about "Outcomes," I want to go back and tie the questions on the quizzes we've already made and used to outcomes, but apparently it's not possible. I don't understand why my students' existing scores can't be linked to the outcomes I've created. Super frustrating.
I know that it is possible to display all question banks aligned with the specific outcome.
My questions are: Is it possible to display all quizzes that aligned to the specific outcome through the question banks?
How could I tell which outcomes are targeted by the quiz after I added question from the banks that were aligned to outcomes?
How could I tell from which bank the quiz question was added?
I hope to get answers. Thank you.
I agree that this is truly frustrating especially if the assessments are provided by the district. My personal solution was to print out a hard copy the assessment and have students enter their answers only in an assessment in Canvas. I created questions under outcomes in the question bank so that I can see the mastery data. Not sure if I have the time to do all of my district assessments this way. :-(
If you regrade the quizzes that have the questions that you linked to a question bank that you added outcomes (after you made your quiz) the questions will be linked and show up in the mastery gradebook.
I think I'm facing a similar issue as NICOLE. Catherine, you mention regrading the quiz but I thought we couldn't regrade quizzes that use questions from question banks. Am I missing something?
I think I used the wrong terminology- I meant update the score of each student's quiz attempt in speedgrader.
I gave my classes a quiz created from questions from a question bank. Once the students had taken the quiz I realized that I had forgotten to add the outcome to the question bank. So I added the outcome, but the students' individual mastery did not show up in the mastery gradebook. I then found out that if I went into speedgrader and clicked "update the score" button at the bottom of each student quiz, that the students' individual mastery did show up in the mastery gradebook. It is a tedious fix for classes with lots of students but it does work.
Success! Thanks so much for sharing this work-around, Catherine!
I was able to use the workaround Catherine noted (thank you!) in Fall 2017 when I first began experimenting with learning outcomes alignment to question banks.
This quarter (in a different course) I accidentally forgot to align outcomes to three question banks and only noticed after students started taking the quiz. I tried the fix again and found it no longer worked; student mastery did not show up in the Learning Mastery Gradebook for the aligned outcomes even after I regraded all the student quizzes in Speedgrader.
I'm curious if anyone else has had success with this fix recently, or if some update to Canvas or setting on my end may have been changed to prevent it.
