Hi I would like to my students ID# put into their account so I can export data from quizzes. Is this a possibility on the free teacher account?
Allen, I took a quick look around in my free account and my guess is that no, you can't add ID#'s for students in the free account. Yet, each student will have their own unique Canvas ID/account number - you can find this by going to People and clicking on a student. Then look at the URL at the top of the page it will look something like this - https://canvas.instructure.com/courses/25XXXX/users/478XXXX - the very last number after users (in this example the 478XXXX) is the person's unique Canvas ID/account number. Would this possibly help with what you're trying to do? I've honestly never tried to export data from quizzes so I don't know if the student ID# (that you would manually enter) is the only way to get this information or if the Canvas ID number would work. For this I'm going to share your question with the Canvas Developers group in the Community to see if they can assist.
Hope this helps!
Thanks for the reply, I didn't know there was a unique Canvas ID. If that id can be spit out with quiz data then I can probably get a spreadsheet to link the two and that could solve my problem. It seems like not allowing the free users to assign id's, in any fashion, is taking away a big part of the functionality...
OK did an export of grades and it did add the canvas unique ID to every student. I should have tried this sooner, sorry.
If I am not able to add my own student ID to canvas then I can just get the canvas student id to match with my schools and input grades that way
Yay! Glad you were able to get this to work!!
