My instructor wants us to put information in the subject box for a discussion, but I don't see one. The only thing I see is where we hit reply and then type in the box.
Hi, Lindsay, welcome to Canvas and the Canvas Community! I can assure you that you are doing everything correctly, because Canvas discussions do not have subject boxes. Your teacher probably copied-and-pasted the instructions for this discussion assignment from a course in a previous/old LMS.
If it were me, I would Type the word Subject: _____ [and fill in the blank] as part of my discussion reply and Let the teacher know that the instructions for the assignment need to be updated.
The student has a valid complaint, and putting the Subject of the post in the body of the post is not a useful response. Is Canvas working to improve the format of the Discussions? A Subject line is one needed improvement. Indenting Replies in threads is also much needed. I keep looking for indications that Canvas is working on this; should I quit expecting it?
Audrey, I suggest you add your feedback and vote to this feature idea, which is currently open for voting and in Product Radar status: Subject Lines for Discussions If you follow the idea to your inbox, you will be kept informed of developments on its progress.
