how to delete a group
Hi Alyssa Bunkley...
I'm not sure if you are an instructor or a student. If you are an instructor, you can do so by using the information in this Canvas Guide: How do I delete a group set?. This Guide specifically tells you how to delete a group set. The process for deleting groups within the group set is almost the same...but you're just clicking on the cog wheel next to the group within the group set to delete it.
I hope this helps, Alyssa!
i am a student
As a student you can't delete a group. You'd need to talk with your teacher about getting the group deleted.
ok but what if i get in trouble
Get in trouble for what? Asking to be removed/deleted from a group? Not sure why this would happen.
yes because it was an accident.

You joining the group? If you joined the group and weren't added to it by your teacher then you can actually take yourself out of it by following the directions found on this guide - How do I leave a group as a student?
For me, as a student, the issue is that I can create a group but I can't delete the group I created.
This is good to hear that student created groups cannot be deleted by students. I had some students create a group in one of my classes earlier this term and it was a mistake. I went in and deleted it because I had already created groups for them and student-created groups can't be used in turning in assignments but I wanted to delete it so they would make sure to get the proper credit for it. I saw that they all got into the group that I created, which was good. I'm also glad I didn't get upset at them since they weren't able to delete it themselves.
On the other hand, activity may have occurred inside that group. If students were allowed to delete groups, then the other people in the group might get really upset when all of their hard work was deleted because someone got upset and decided to delete the group. Even if it was an accident, we don't want student work being deleted.
Canvas even has that policy on submissions. If a student uploads the wrong file and then comes back and re-uploads the right one, the old one is still out there. The student can't delete it and lead the instructor to think that it was never there but that the replacement was always there.
To me the issue is I, a student, wanted to create a study group. It was not suggested or required by the professor. I did not want or need professor input. Thus, I'd like the autonomy not only to be able to create it, invite who I want to the group, and delete it when I choose.
If a student can create a group, they should be able to delete it. Also, when I created a student group, the professors were automatically added. I don't see why that is necessary for a study group.
How can I delete a Group Set that was created by a student by mistake? I am not able to delete it.
