I love the gamification aspect of the community and I'd love to see more missions and more badges available.
To respond in the form of an answer; yes, certainly more to come in the way of missions and badges. Stay tuned...
Great! I look forward to the challenge
Hey Travis! What are some badges/missions you'd like to see?
Hey Jordan and Scott,
Obviously there are all sorts of missions or badges you could implement. It just depends on which behaviors you want to encourage. I'd like to see badges/missions associated with:
Like I said, it depends on what behaviors you want to see from us. If you want us as community members to share content or ask questions, then award us for it
What do you want from us? I want to participate, engage and earn big badges!
Great ideas Travis!
Biray Seitz has put a lot of time and thought into the existing badges/missions and we'll be releasing more along the lines of what you are suggesting, so stay tuned!
Wow! This is great, Jordan. Certainly some light reading.
Biray has done a great job with the existing badges/missions thus far, and I don't expect that I'll be disappointed with what is released in the near future. There are quite a few actions to take into account for gamification listed in the action list. So, basically you're telling me that...
Haha, Travis. Try to catch Katniss, I mean Kona Jones if you dare.
I'm trying to catch up to her, too, Scott Dennis. So, so close...
You have to trulylovejive (and helping the canvas community) to win at Jive.
It's not clear yet if the API/Developer community will be included in Jive, but if it is, I would encourage you to award the posting of code samples to the community.
Even better, you could create coding challenges/missions and give awards for participation. One example off the top of my head:
Challenge: Design an process using the API for retrieving a list of students who have not submitted one or more assignments.
Submissions would then be scripts or code snippets that then implement this challenge in whatever language the submitter is comfortable. And the community knowledge base grows. Over time, an entire cookbook of API recipes could be developed in this way
Glen I love this idea. I noticed that you submitted the developer group idea. There's definitely been some interest in a group like that. Keep your eyes peeled for any new groups that pop up...
Yes, stay tuned. More info for the developer community coming soon.
There will definitely be a developer community group. We met yesterday with several developers and hope to get the group published soon - probably this coming week.
Just as an update Canvas Developers is now open for business (aka open to anyone who wants to join).
Congratulations, Travis N. Thurston Your question has 1% global reach!
Cool! That's really interesting to see,Scott. I hadn't noticed the Impact Metrics. That's really cool to see.
Can't wait to see how they play out!
Ok, Travis, I need a little help with the badges - where do I start? What should I do? Bah!
Go to your profile, and click on the box that shows points
The mission info is kind of hidden within your profile:
This link should take you there:
Click your Avatar > View Profile > Click your points > Missions > Click gear icon to see requirements
Click your Avatar > View Profile > More... > Reputation > Missions > Click gear icon to see requirements
Here are some step-by-step guides, too.
What is the Canvas Community Reward System?
How do I give a badge to another user in the Community?
How do I feature badges on my profile?
I love how almost every person in this forum is one of the top 20-30 users in the rankings and already at level 2 or 3!!
You can really tell who the competitors are.
Yeah, fun to watch, isn't it?
Indeed it is! I have a long way to go to catch you and Kona, Scott.
Oh, how the mighty fall...
