Catalog custom JS

This is a question for Catalog admins. Forgive me if I've posted it in the wrong place

I'm trying to add some custom JS to our Catalog beta instance. Essentially, to do some validation for the promo code field.

I added this code to the JS file and saved it but the alert does not trigger when I click on the button "Proceed to Payment" (which has the submit event attached to it):

$('.RegistrationForm').submit(function() {

alert("form is being submitted");

});//end submit function

});//end function

Note: Since the form does not have an id, I'm referencing it via the class associated with the form tag.

Any help would be much appreciated.
