Is it possible to disable the back and forward buttons in modules?
Hello, Mark, and welcome to the Canvas Community! Are you referring to the back and next buttons that appear at the bottom of each page, assignment, quiz, and so forth when you place those items in a module? If so, no, there isn't any ability on the front end of Canvas to disable or remove those buttons.
Perhaps a developer could work some magic with custom code to remove them for you.
Having said that, I'm obliged to point out that those back and next buttons are intrinsic to the module functionality--being able to navigate sequentially through the module items, without constantly having to go back to the modules list, is part of the core functionality of modules. If you don't want those buttons to appear, you might consider embedding all of your content in a Canvas page so that students click on the items, make that your course home page, then hide all of the other links in the course navigation. Or, you could use the Syllabus page as your course home page, and students would navigate to the content by clicking on the items in the Assignments List that is automatically populated at the bottom of that page as you publish your graded assignments.
