I received an email about an event that I want to share with my students. On the bottom of the page there is a hyperlink that takes you to register for the event. How can I add that hyperlink to the Canvas message?
Hello, Heidi, and welcome to the Canvas Community! Messages in the Canvas Inbox don't accommodate formatting, and for the most part, are meant to be used for short plain text messages. The good news, though, is that if you simply copy and paste the URL for the event into the message body, when you send it it will automatically convert itself to a clickable link for your students.
Whenever I need to alert my students to an event that required a hyperlink, or for anything else that required rich text for that matter, I use Announcements, which have the full array of Rich Content Editor tools. If you're concerned that your students won't receive the notification for the announcements, you can cover yourself by creating the announcement, copying the link to the announcement, and sending it to your students in a message. I usually did that for the first few weeks of classes until students got the hang of navigating to announcements for new information in the class, and I also included a note to that effect in my course syllabus (something on the order of "I generally communicate new developments in the class through Announcements, so make sure your notifications for Announcements are set to 'Right Away'").
Thank you Stefanie! That was very helpful and I greatly appreciate it!
