Parent Course

Discussion created by Michelle Pilati Corselli on Jan 21, 2017

I'm not sure of the right language for this and, of course, I'd love to be told that it already exists. At present, I suspect many faculty combine course sections so that they do not have to make changes in multiple places when changes are needed. I don't think that anyone can make a case for why combining course sections is actually good for students - but we can definitely make a case for why it makes life easier for faculty. If individual course sections could pull course materials from a "parent", then changes could be made to that parent and then pushed to the course sections. As I understand it, there once was a way to do this - and now you can only do it if you share things with the world in Commons.

And for our part-time faculty who teach in multiple instances - this would be extremely valuable. Especially if sharing across instances was possible.

Thoughts? Ideas? If this makes sense, help me perfect it and we'll get it into the general Community for a vote.
