I answer class questions on the chat and would like to know how many students are viewing it. Is there some way to see this?
On the front end of Canvas the only way to tell this is to go to People, click on the name of a student, click on "Access Report for student X", and then scroll through (or do a Ctrl-F) and see if Chat shows up.
OR, you can use this canvancement - Obtaining and using Access Report data for an entire course - to allow you to download an excel file with this information (and a lot more) any time you want it! If you go this route you would want to install the Access Report for All Students Canvancement and then do a pivot table to find out which students have accessed chat.
Here's a quick video showing what to do after you download the canvancement to get the chat information - 01.23.2017-13.05.02
For anyone interested in this topic, be sure to RSVP to the CanvasLIVE event Obtaining Access Report Data for an Entire Class , which is coming up this Friday, February 3, 2017. RSVP “yes” if you will be there--and if you’re interested, but your schedule doesn’t allow you to attend in real time, RSVP "no" or "maybe" to receive all event updates. Your RSVP ensures that you will receive a notification should the event be cancelled or changed.
