My pictures are showing up to my professor sideways but on my computer they are upright. He told me to go to Canvas Help to figure out what my problem is. So please HELP.
Hey Tori Mercer,
First, I'm going to convert this to a question instead of a discussion, so the community has the ability to mark an answer as correct, and it shows up alongside other questions posted here in the community.
I wonder about a few things...
1) Are you trying to upload the image file to an assignment?
2) Are you using a phone or computer to submit this file?
3) What operating system are you on?
There is a very similar question at Image rotation which describes some common issues/solutions to images that don't appear the same way in Canvas as they did on the user's device. Can you answer these questions or take a look at that thread and see if there's anything that can be done on your end to affect the way the image appears in Canvas?
To add onto what the great Adam Williams has told you...I helped another Canvas user look into this issue last Fall (check out our lengthy discussion here: iPhone pictures sideways in discussions ). In short, if you are on an iOS device, the phone will strip the appropriate information when it comes to the orientation of the picture. Pretty frustrating, but here is a workaround I found:
Workaround: use a third party application, like Camera+, and upload from iOS device to cloud hosting service (such as Dropbox), and then post into Canvas. This method will preserve image orientation and metadata information.
Let us know how that helps!
Hi, Tori Mercer - We're coming up on a week since you posted your question and I wanted to circle back around and see how things were going on your end. We're all happy to help however we can!
Hi Tori Mercer ~ It's been about six weeks since we last heard from you. Did the response from Kenneth Rogers or the information in Image rotation resolve your issue? For now, I will mark this question as "Assumed Answered"; that will not prevent you or others from responding. If there is a workable solution posted here, please mark that answer as "Correct"--and if you arrived at a different solution, please take a moment to update the thread. Thanks!
