On Ipad canvas menus are in russian but everything else is in English. Any ideas how to fix?
That depends on which one is correct. Did you want Canvas to be in English or everything else to be in Russian?
If it's the first one, the most likely culprit is that the User Settings are set to Russian. I can't confirm this because the battery is dead on the iPad right now, but for the web interface, if you go to Account > Settings > Edit Settings, I get to change my language preference. Mine is set to System Default (English (US)), but Russian is one of the choices. The user should be able to change it back to something else.
The Canvas App documentation say to click on the photo at the top, then profile, then settings. That's as detailed as it gets, but hopefully you can figure it out from there.
If it's the second case, I have absolutely no idea to help. It would probably depend on whether or not all those apps had support for Russian.
James is correct. The mobile app will match your language settings on the web. Look at what happened when I changed the language:
So, if you want the general system text (menus, etc) to be another language, you would set it through the web version. The mobile app doesn't have the ability to change or adjust language settings.
Like said before, if your language settings aren't set the Russian and you are getting this in the menu, besides deleting the app and reinstalling, I'm out of suggestions.
Ryan and James I was reading update notes for the Android App Canvas by Instructure Release Notes (Android 5.4) , and it stated "The Canvas by Instructure app supports 18 new languages. Language preferences will need to be set in the web version of Canvas, as well as in your device settings." So it seems the Android App follows the device settings as well as the Canvas browser settings. Is this true for iOS too?
Yes just found it in release notes for the iOS app Canvas by Instructure Release Notes (iOS 3.17) : "Canvas by Instructure supports 18 new languages. Language preferences will need to be set in your device settings."
I think this information should be in the mobile apps documentation and not just the release notes. Took me a while to find through search.
I agree. I will report this to the documentation team. Thanks!
Hi Jonathan Hayes,
I'm curious to know if Ryan's suggestion helped you resolve this issue?
