Does Canvas have a way to instantly notify a group member when a post has been submitted to a discussion that that member is involved in?
Sure thing, Danny! How do I set my Canvas notification preferences? I hope that helps, but in a large class, discussion notifications can add up to quite a lot of notifications.
Thanks for the reply! I changed my notification settings to notify me
immediately of a change to a discussion. However when I reply to a
discussion nothing is sent to my email. This is the way the professor had
the class set up: students work on a project as a 3 person group and are
only supposed to collaborate on Canvas during the project. He does this so
that he can see our input into the project as well as ensuring we are on
the right track. Because we are having issues with this our professor has
allowed us to use any media platform to communicate with each other. I
however am not ready to think that this cannot be done on Canvas. Will
Canvas notify my of any changes to a discussion or does it only notify me
if a person subscribes changes the discussion?

Well, if you are subscribed it will notify you when other people post. For others to receive notifications, they would have to subscribe and have their notification settings in order.
Another option might be to install the Canvas mobile app on your phone (if you have an Android or iPhone) and check into the discussion every now and then.
I just saw the notification delay of 1 hour and this may be my issue.

I'm proposing the creation of aLarge Class Instruction Group in the Canvas Community to gather and share discussions with a large class focus. Please consider voting the idea up! Thanks!
