Does the validation link function check for broken links within the course such as links to files as well as external links?
Hi John W. Carter - Yes, it should. I just now purposely deleted a file from my Files page of a sample course site, and the Link Validator flagged it as an "unresponsive link." A bit of an understatement, but it did flag it. Like all link checkers, use it with a grain of salt rather than the gospel truth, but I've found it quite helpful, overall.
Thanks a bunch!

I have just found 3 broken links to files within Canvas, that the link validator did not pick up. The links in pages were going to files which had had their names changed with (1) added to the filename. This suggests they were duplicate files. I don't know what had happened to the originals. The Canvas link validator did not pick these up as unresponsive ... even though the links were broken and took you to an error message that the files did not exist.
We use the link validator a lot and find it very useful ... but it would be even more useful if it could flag up broken links to files within Canvas.
That may be worth filing to ticket to Canvas to report that behavior, Catherine. I imagine they're always trying to fine-tune things. (What I would personally love is some sort of warning in the Files area that the file is linked elsewhere in the course before I'm able to delete it, though I imagine that would involve quite a bit of programming to accomplish.)
That would be wonderful ... a bit like the file manager in Wordpress, where it tells you if a file is in use.
