I have a teacher that is leaving the district, and wants to export all of the content they created. How can they do this? They will not have access to Canvas when they leave.
It depends on what they actually want. For exporting, there's no "one click option" - they'll need to export each course individually, then import it into another canvas instance - such as the Free For Teachers canvas instance. If they just want the files, they'll need to export each file. There may be some tools available to help with this, but the basic tools won't allow mass export.
To add to what Anthony said, here's the guide that explains how to export course content - How do I export a Canvas course?
Hi CAREN RUMSEY - Some of this depends on what they intend to do with it and if they will be using another LMS at their new school district.
The most straight-forward method is by heading into each course site, heading to Settings on the side menu and then selecting Export Course Content. This is covered in detail in this Canvas guide: How do I export a Canvas course? Note that it exports into a file with the .imscc file extension. That is accepted by many other LMSs, though mileage will vary. Note that the documentation indicates that it can be changed to a .zip file extension and then treated like any other zip file if the faculty member just simply wants everything for him/herself.
A more burdensome method is by heading to the Files area, selecting all of the files (Ctrl/Command-A will work, as well), and then exporting all FILES (only) as a ZIP file. This is dealt with here: How do I download a folder in ZIP format as an instructor? Even though the title of that page indicates it is for folders, it does work for multiple files, as well. Needless to say, however, this will ONLY export the files and nothing else.
I am not aware of an easy to way to simply tell Canvas (as an administrator) to "download all files related to faculty member X," however, other than maybe using an API call, in which case you would have to solicit the input of other Community members!
