I am an Admin for Canvas for higher education. We are currently transitioning to Canvas from another LMS, and I am wondering why Canvas allows teachers to create sections or rename sections that may not exist within the Registrar's database? For example, if an instructor wanted to allow a student more time for an exam, why would they need to create a new section when they could create an assignment group specific to that student instead? I see this being an issue at an institution of our size with instructors using the "Add Section" option thinking that they are adding sections from the Registrar, which might cause issues in the enrollment scripts. Is there a way to restrict instructors from using this setting?
