Has anyone at the middle school level tryed to generate a grade/progress report? Is this feature even possible in canvas?
There isn't anything built in to Canvas that would generate an email report or print out for multiple batches of students to send out individual progress reports. We still use or SIS for this as that is where the official grade records need to reside. I think the design of Canvas is geared more towards going to Canvas either on the website or with a mobile app to check progress grades and also having students/parents use the built-in notifications functions in Canvas.
For more on these options see:
Additionally, schools/districts can use the Canvas API to pull almost any data for students and put this in a portal or even email or print report they design themselves. We are in the process of doing this now, so parents will receive a customized weekly progress report for their children.
I think that answers your question, but if you have more questions by all means feel free to ask.
Have you taken a look at the Individual View in the Gradebook? (How do I view assignments or students individually in the Gradebook? ) I'm not sure if this is what you are looking for or if you are actually wanting to do custom printouts. If the latter, you could possibly export the full Gradebook into Excel and do a basic mail-merge. That's the great thing about the Gradebook being completely exportable; you can do almost any sort of calculation or manipulation you need with the exported data.
My advice could be totally off base, so if it is, describe for us what sort of output you are wanting and maybe we can come up with some better ideas.
Thank you for your help. We are actually looking to print or email home a custom report to inform parents of failures. In our SIS we used we were able to do that easily.
I agree with John Lowe about needing more information. Could you provide some specific details about what information you are wanting and how you want to access this information?
