My policy lets students drop their lowest exam score. But, if a student cheats they cannot drop the 0 they get on that exam. How does Canvas handle this?
Hi Therese, it sounds like you want to bypass the "drop lowest" rule of an assignment group for just a single student, in the case that a student is caught cheating. There may be other ways to accomplish this, but the first one that comes to mind for me is to create a "Cheating Penalty" (or whatever you prefer to name it) assignment that is only assigned to that student, and then give them a grade of zero on it.
Cons: It would be an extra column in the gradebook and in large courses, or courses heavy on graded items, that could be a real issue visually and to performance. Gradebook efficiency is definitely a concern and there might be some related ideas in Priority: Gradebook Enhancements.
