Special Language Characters

Any time a student has a special character in their name, such as a tilde over an n, we get a UTF-8 error on our SIS import.  I have turned in a case but curious if anyone else has dealt with this and how you overcome the issue.   Right now we are removing the character in the SIS but that really is not a good solution.  Their name in the system should match the student's birth certificate.
