Has anyone successfully given summer access to an AP course for the upcoming year. The students will access content and submit assignments for grades to be counted in the first quarter's mark.
I can't speak to your particular setup, but this would be a challenge in our school district because of how our SIS extracts work. With Scheduling going on throughout the summer, we don't even attempt to begin building courses for the next school year until a week before school starts.
Assuming the courses are already built and students are assigned to those courses (and also assuming you are using "terms" to start and end courses), you can open the course early by putting the course in it's own Summer term that has different term dates than the other courses. You could change the term to the same term as the other courses once school starts or just make sure the Summer term has the same end date as your normal terms.
We make accommodations for our AP courses each year, and it works really well! Most of the time, teachers are able to adjust term dates, course dates, and section dates in their course to make sure their students have access to the materials as appropriate.
A few of our AP instructors use Multiple Grading Periods in their courses. If that's the case for you, a little extra work needs to go into making adjustments. This way, all of the summer work can count towards Q1, but Q2, Q3, Q4 can match the rest of the school.
How do I add grading periods in an account?
How do I use grading periods in a course?
Let me know if you'd like to collaborate! I'd be more than happy to explain our set-up and roll-out further.
