How to send email to all students in the class?
Hi Tamara Miller - Assuming you are the instructor of a course, you can do this from the Inbox link from the left side navigation bar. Complete instructions are available in the Faculty Guide here: How do I send a message to all course users in Conversations as an instructor? Students have a similar capability, though as the top information in either of those links indicate, this is a permission that can be enabled/disabled at an institutional level. So if you do NOT see the ability to message all students, it is likely because your institution disabled that permission, so you would want to double-check with them.
I hope this helps, Tamara!

Hello Tamara Miller...
I will also add that Canvas does not really have an e-mailing function inside of the platform. Yes, there is an "Inbox", but it's not necessarily e-mail. Sometimes it is referred to as "Messaging". Here's why I say this. Every single user inside of your school's Canvas instance can go into his/her own user preferences and choose how he/she wants to be notified of certain events in Canvas...including getting messages inside of Canvas. So, for example, you may choose to be notified via a school or personal e-mail account, but someone else may prefer to only be notified about new Inbox messages via a text message to their phone. Others may prefer to be notified of a new message via their Twitter account. And then there is also the frequency of all those notifications that you can also set. So, it's entirely possible that if you message an entire class via Canvas, some of your students may not receive a copy of that message to their e-mail account...depending on how they have their own personal preferences and notifications set up in Canvas.
Thanks, Chris, for the added clarification. That is all certainly true!
