Is there a way to limit file size upload of student assignment submissions?
Hi Howard Errey - The short answer is "no." While you can limit by file type, there is not a way to limit by file size.
Can you share some specifics as to what you are trying to do? Brighter minds than mine in the Canvas Community may be able to come up with interesting workarounds. (I had to kind of chuckle when I saw your question, in fact, because the majority of posts in the past in the Community have centered around concerns of any existing limits for file uploads rather than concerns of how to limit them. But you raise an interesting question.)
Hi! I would also love a file size limit function. We're using Canvas to accept graduate thesis submissions from our students. Our CMS for theses access requires that the PDF/As are less than 20 MB. We just switched to Canvas and our previous LMS allowed us to limit the size of file upload, kicking back the file if larger than 20 MB. This has helped our workflow tremendously. Because of extremely large file sizes, it would take months of work to get our theses online. This year (before switching to Canvas), it took roughly 7 days!
Hi Jennifer - Well, this sounds like an idea for a Feature Idea! Feel free to submit one after reading over this document: How do I create a new feature idea?
