How do I combine my classes so I don't have to duplicate assignments for the same classes taught at different times?
One way is to cross-list the courses, but you may or may not have permissions as an instructor to do this (depending on how Canvas has been configured for your institution): How do I cross-list a section in a course as an admin?
Note that there is a caveat in there about the courses should be unpublished when you do this. I haven't tried cross-listing myself, so I can't speak to how strongly that warning is. I do know that you can't unpublish a course once grades have been entered, so this really is something that should be done before the semester begins rather than realizing it after the semester is underway.
Another option is to have one course with multiple sections in it. The course holds the content and the sections hold the students. Further information about that can be found in What is the hierarchical structure for Canvas accounts?
You may also want to look at Understanding Courses and Sections , which is a user discussion about this topic and speaks in terms of real-world use rather than the "manual" you'll find in the official documentation.
Finally, you'll want to speak to your local Canvas Administrator about how to this automatically for you and to get their recommendation. There may be reasons why things are done the way they are at your school.
