Canvas for World Language Classes

I am using Canvas with the hopes of creating a more dynamic learning environment for my students.  The elements of Canvas should make assigning and receiving different types of assessments, including audio and video, much more time efficient since the recorders are built right into the program.  The Mastery Paths should make Individualized instruction much easier, which, in turn, should lead to higher student engagement and achievement.  The features of Canvas should make creating listening and viewing activities much easier since you can quickly create an assignment by pasting links to resources directly into the question generator boxes.  One final feature that I think will make using Canvas easier is that you can import files directly from Google Drive into the coursework.  Since I store the majority of my files on Google Drive, this should make the transition to Canvas a little easier.

Our school district is using Canvas for World Language in K-5. It has been very successful in the past two years.   We purchased a curriculum from a vendor (Santillana), actually download the thin common cartridge through Canvas Commons and its pretty much ready to go.  The vendor content is essentially interactive digital text books that come into Canvas via iFrame.  We created one course for each of the levels K,1, 2,3, 4, 5.   Each individual world language teacher has a link on the left nav of their canvas course using the re-direct LTI that takes them to the World language course.  Example, Mrs. Smith, Mr. Allen, Ms. Jones each teach World Lanaguage Spanish at the 1st grade level.  Instead of downloading the course into 3 teacher courses, we just have one main course and each WL teacher has a link to it.  This keeps maintenance down and teachers are still free to have their own announcements and home pages.
