Is it possible to create an assignment that doesn't show up in the syllabus?

In our course, we have a lot of assignments that do not have a due date. The students are responsible on their own for completing them in a timely manner. I do not like the long list of dateless assignments that show up at the bottom of our syllabus page. It looks very bad. Is it possible to create an assignment and choose a setting that would keep it from showing up on the syllabus?

Our students work through the course from the module page. They have some choice over which assignments they complete and when they complete them. At the end of each module, there is a checkpoint they must complete. Those checkpoints are set with the prerequisite that certain undated assignments have been completed. The checkpoint assignments do have a due date. Those are the assignments we need to show on the calendar and in the syllabus.

Below is a screenshot of what I see now. I would like to eliminate the assignments at the bottom that don't have a due date.

Thanks ahead of time for any help or insight.
