Best way to create a quiz with many different options but one right answer

I am creating a quiz that includes an image and descriptive information. The student needs to use that information to select the cell identification from a master list of 74 options - I am trying to figure out the most efficient way to set that up for the students as well as the instructor.

1. In the past (D2L)- the master list was in a foot note on the quiz and the students could refer to it for selecting.

2. Explored putting a copy of the master list inside the description box for each question - possible but it does make for a ton of text inside each question.

3. Explored creating a drop down list of all 74 options but I'm not sure if quizzes can handle 74 options.

4. Every once in a while the codes change - trying to find a solution that is the easiest to update.

So are 2 and 3 the only options - what am I missing here?  What is best for the instructor and future editing?

Already appreciating in advance your ideas.
