I have 20 classes, each with a different name. Is it possible to add the class name with the code. Currently, all I see is the class code.
John, Welcome to the Community! Yes, courses can be named rather than a code or number. The issue is that this is a school specific thing, not a Canvas thing. So each school picks how they want their courses to be named. This means what you would want to do to ask about this is contact the Canvas Admin at your school. If you're not sure how to contact a Canvas Admin then you can click on the Help link in Canvas and Report a Problem.
Hope this helps!
Hi John Maurizi
Kona is correct! We get lots of request in the Community from Faculty who are concerned, for one reason or another, with how Course names/IDs display in Canvas. Canvas displays the course name that it is provided, and typically for schools it is the names recorded in the school's information system and this name is populated through integration with the info system, or through a CSV upload or via API.
When our entire state system system migrated to Canvas 5+ years ago, we needed to change how our courses were named in Canvas, and our State Board did this by a combination of revising the course ID fields in our SIS and how those fields were parsed in Canvas.
Don't give up on this! It will become more important as the numbers of your courses in Canvas grow. Talk to other faculty and get the support for pushing a change through your system. I know this can sometimes be daunting. Luckily for us, our State Board works very closely and collaboratively with its system colleges. I know this is not always the case with other colleges, state systems or K-12 districts.
