I am unable to place a link within an event on my calendar. I used to use the link tool and simply paste the url, but it is not saving. Any ideas?
Are you hitting ENTER (or even just the space bar) after pasting in the URL in the rich content editor to ensure it goes "live," Diana Cronk? It seems to be working okay for me. Here's an example I just did for an event in a practice course site:
So, make sure you're in the rich content editor (clicking More Options after adding the initial information) and then you should be able to paste the URL. Like everywhere else in the rich content editor, you want to hit the SPACE bar or ENTER and you'll immediately see it turn blue, ensuring that it's a "live" hyperlink. You may want want to try highlight the text you want to use as the link and use the link icon, too, as outlined here: How do I create a hyperlink in the Rich Content Editor as an instructor?
Does that help at all?
This suggestion: You may want want to try highlight the text you want to use as the link and use the link icon, too, as outlined here: How do I create a hyperlink in the Rich Content Editor as an instructor?<https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-10305-4152719751>
Is what is not working. I can put an entire url in as a link, but when I try to use the icon it does not save.
I was trying to link the explorelearning.com that I had listed in my Agenda to the actual url so it would take students directly to the login page.
Well, that's odd. I just tried it again using an embedded link (obviously I don't have your entire one to the one you have), but it seems to be working for me:
I'm running out of ideas, but here's one more: did you try a different browser? This is especially true if using the Internet Explorer/Edge family of browsers, as those have caused the most issues with almost anything that doesn't work correctly in the past. Otherwise, it may be time to report it to Canvas (Help>>Report a Problem)!
Here is a snip of what I see. We have to use a table and post our Agenda for the week every Sunday. I have always been able to put links in, but for some reason, this particular one is not working. Earlier this week I put in a link to a Google Spreadsheet in the same way and it worked fine.
I am highlighting the text as you see below, going to the link icon, pasting the url directly, and then choosing insert link. It will look fine until I go to the bottom and click update event.
I have tried Chrome and Mozilla Firefox.
Wow--that is quite a bit to put into a calendar event, but even so things should still work. I could not replicate the issue. I placed a link in a table and again things seemed to work fine, though I'm sure the sample table is nowhere near as comprehensive as yours:
I can only surmise that "something" somewhere else, perhaps, is causing that behavior to occur...either elsewhere in the table or somewhere else. It's hard to say what, though. I'm sorry I can't help more! It may be time to report this to Canvas.
Our district requires a full weekly agenda posted every Sunday for every course. It is a lot of work, but it is very helpful to students. I appreciate you trying to help…I can just post the full url.
