Is there a Canvas Tool/LTI that enables synchronous instruction and functions on a mobile device? Collaborations and Conferences only work on desktops.
Hey there, Fabiola Torres,
So if I understand your question correctly, are you asking if any of the Canvas apps can use Collaboration and Conferences?
It's my understanding that the Mobile app isn't really meant to be the end all be all in a student or staff's utility belt. More a weapon for quick use.
Here are the guides for all mobile apps out at the moment: Guides: Mobile. It also shows the IOs vs Android guides.
If you feel like this would be a good improvement for the Mobile Community, definitely feel free to use the How do I create a new feature idea? guide and create an idea for others to vote on.
I'm gonna also share this with the Canvas Mobile Users Group community for more input.
Additionally, see these guides for what is not currently supported in Mobile. Which Course Navigation links are currently not supported within the Canvas app on my Android device? Which Course Navigation tabs are currently not supported within the Canvas app on my iOS device?
For synchronous sessions, we use Blackboard Collaborate. They actually have a pretty good LTI. The only caveat is that on a mobile device, the sessions don't play inside the Canvas app. They do an external call to the Bb app that you have to have installed. It works, but it's clunky. I wrote a piece on this experience awhile back: "Integration" with Bb Collaborate Ultra Mobile
Kenneth Rogers brings up a good point. You will find it nearly impossible to find a mobile tool that will do this inside the mobile app, but there might be some 3rd party apps that can do it. Mobile apps, especially on iOS, don't handle LTIs very well inter-app. There is no standard, so Canvas can't really work towards a sustainable solution. I know this isn't an answer, but just wanted to add that LTIs on mobile is not a good world.
There is a mobile version of Big Blue Button (Conferences), but I'm not sure of how that works with Canvas, anyone know?

I realize there are limitations within Canvas. I use Skype and it works perfect for my synchronous sessions. I was hoping (am hoping) a tool for mobile devices since most students use their phones for class participation. HINT HINT Canvas Developers. THANK YOU!!!!
YES, YES, YES, Fabiola Torres!
So glad to see your post while I was searching for an answer to the same question.
I want my online students sitting at their local coffee shop watching our class "live" and piping in with questions in a chat box. Synchronous delivery offers so many possibilities, so building that out seems critical. Mobile is where the students are- and I want my content- both live and static- available wherever they may be.
