Is it possible to edit a file (for example a word document or a powerpoint presentation) directly in Canvas?
Hello there, Nicolai Vinum Welcome to the community! Seems you've been around for a few months, but this is your first post.
There isn't really a way to edit a document that has been uploaded to Canvas. You can edit anything that you upload into Canvas via the Rich Content Editor. Think of Canvas like a repository that stores what you use.
Whats the outcome that you're trying to achieve by doing so if you don't mind me asking? We may be able to work out another process to get what you need.
Thanks for Your answer. I have experienced this when I upload a Powerpoint for my students and discover something that has to be corrected. Then I have to delete the file and then upload a new version. I think It would be much easier If I could just edit the file directly
Hi Nicolai Vinum...
Right now, this isn't possible inside of Canvas. However, a work-around would be to use something like Google Slides or PowerPoint for O365 (online). Essentially what you would do is upload your PowerPoint presentation to either of those cloud-based servers. You could then edit the file as needed right online. Then, you could embed your PowerPoint presentation inside of your course. If you had more than one course, you could use the same embed code to put that presentation in those other courses. If you ever needed to make an update to the presentation, you sign in to Google Slides or O365...make the change...and it's changed for all courses you've embedded the presentation into. Would a solution like this meet your needs?
I think this might be the sollution. Thanks for your help. I will definitely try it out
Hi there, Nicolai Vinum...
I thought I'd check in with you because there hasn't been much activity in this discussion topic since your posting on September 18th. In reviewing the discussion, is there a response above that you'd feel comfortable marking as "Correct"? Are there any outstanding issues that you are still seeking some assistance with related to this topic? For now, I am going to mark your question as "Assumed Answered", but that won't prevent you or others from posting additional questions/comments below that are related to this topic. I hope that's okay with you, Nicolai. Looking forward to hearing back from you soon!
