Is there a setting in discussion boards to receive notifications when a peer replies to a specific string of posts that you have also replied to?
And how to stop receiving jive posts I don't want to see! I updated my settings to all for Summaries but I'm still getting 20-30 emails a day. I just want to see posts that I've replied to and *then* also be able to "unsubscribe" from it so I dont' get emails for ever and ever and ever - which is what I think is happening to me. Thank you.
Hi ELIZABETH BOWDEN...
I'm not completely sure that Cassie Cabuag is asking about settings for discussion topics here in the Canvas Community (Jive). I could be wrong, but she may be asking about peer discussions in Canvas courses...which is different than discussion posts here in the Community.
To answer your question, however... you can find out more about your individual notification settings by visiting this Guide: How do I set my user preferences in the Community? Specifically, take a look at the section called Set Notification and Inbox Preferences. I hope this helps, Elizabeth.
Hi Cassie Cabuag Welcome to the worldwide Canvas Community, where fellow Canvas users such as yourself can share ideas and ask questions about the Canvas learning management system. Assuming--as Chris Hofer indicated--that you are indeed asking about settings for discussion topics in a Canvas course site, and also assuming that by "peers" you are referring to students replying to a discussion prompt that you replied to, the answer is "yes," but this assumes that a little bit of editing of Notifications be done.
First, as this document points out, by replying to a Discussion as a student, one is automatically subscribed to it. So that's step one. However, the student may not be notified unless s/he also enables the Discussion Post setting so that notifications are received. So if this happened in the past, it's likely too late. But for future reference, the students should be sure to update their Notification setting for Discussion Post. Additional information on how to do that (which I'm frankly surprised the original article I linked to does not itself link to!) is here: How do I set my Canvas notification preferences as a student?
I hope this helps, Cassie!
Hello Cassie Cabuag...
As I was reviewing older discussion posts here in the Canvas Community, I came across your question. I wanted to check in with you because we've not heard from you since you first posted this question on October 2, 2017. Have you had an opportunity to review the feedback from Ken Black (above)? If so, did his response help to answer your question? Or, are you still looking for some assistance with this question? If you feel that Ken's response has helped to answer your question, please go ahead and mark his response as "Correct". However, if you still have some questions related to this topic for members of the Community, please come back to this thread and post a message below so that we might be able to help you out. For now, I am going to mark your question as "Assumed Answered" because we've not heard from you since October and because there hasn't been any new activity in this thread for about the same time length. This won't prevent you or others from posting additional questions and/or comments below, however. I hope that's alright with you, Cassie. Looking forward to hearing from you soon.
