My grade center has duplicate columns, resulting in twice as many as needed. How can I delete columns in the grade center?
Hi Pam Schena
A problem we noted with many of our faculty after we first adopted Canvas, were duplicate assignments. Our faculty, in misunderstanding the nature of Modules, mistakenly thought that removing an item from the Module also removed it from the gradebook. It does not. In order to remove an item from the gradebook it must be removed from Assignments or unpublished.
If this is the issue, you can learn more at How do I delete an assignment?
I hope this helps,
Pam Schena, by grade center do you mean Graded in Canvas? If so, then what might be happening is that you only have one assignment for an assignment group. If that’s the case then it can look like the assignment is duplicated, but what you are seeing is the assignment (this column is where you can actually change the grade) and the assignment group average (this can’t be changed manually and if you had more assignments in that group then it would show the average grade for all assignments in the group).
Does that help? If not, then provide some additional information about what you are experiencing (and a screen shot would be great as well) and we’ll keep trying to figure this out!
That was the problem, Kelley! I had instructions and reminders listed as Assignments, so they showed up in the grade center. Thank you so much for an easy solution to this problem!
