I have created a Graded Survey. The multiple choice boxes have possible answers, but it doesn't ask for the Correct Answer? Why?
A Graded Survey is an all or nothing grade. If they take the survey, they get all the points. If they don't, they get no points. Also, because this is a survey, there are not correct answers.
How do I create a survey in my course?
Can you make it Extra Credit? The only way that I know to do this is to make it worth 0 points and then give them some, right?
Yes, you can do this if no one has taken the survey yet. This does mean that if they take it, they will get 0 points, and you will have to manually give them points for taking the quiz.
In lieu of a curve, I would like to offer my students extra credit for completing a "Reflection on my Exam#1 Results" Survey. My goal is to provide survey response options that get students thinking about what study strategies did/didn't work, and to consider things they might do to improve future exam scores.
If I were to make a Graded Survey = zero points (in order to make it extra credit), can you recommend the best way to tell which students did/did not complete the survey, so that I know who to give points to later? Would there be some indication within the Gradebook that differentiates, such as a zero for those who completed the survey and a dash for those who did not? If so, I expect I can just export the Gradebook as a CSV, add points to students where indicated, and import those points back to the Gradebook. If no, would I need to go student-by-student in SpeedGrader to look for "No submission" messages? Is there some other (more straight forward) option I am not considering?
Also, what if I were to assign this survey to some (but not all) of my students? That is, I would only want to offer this "Reflection on my Exam#1" extra credit to those who actually took Exam#1. Other than an occasional individual make-up exam, I have never actually assigned an activity to just 'some' students in Canvas. Would that alter this Graded Survey extra credit 'adding points' process - either in the Gradebook (with respect to dashes versus zeros) or in SpeedGrader?
Good morning, Aimee Ulstad...
I have been reviewing older questions here in the Canvas Community, and I stumbled upon your question. I wanted to check in with you because I noticed that there hasn't been any new activity in this topic since February 1, 2018. It looks like Robbie Grant provided some feedback for you. Have you had a chance to review his additional posting about your extra credit question? Also, as it relates to your original question, did Robbie answer your question? If so, please feel free to mark his question as "Correct". However, if you are still looking for some assistance with this question, please let us know so that someone from the Community might be able to assist you. For now, I am going to mark your question as "Assumed Answered" because there hasn't been any new activity in this topic for four months. However, that won't prevent you or others from posting additional questions and/or comments below that are related to this topic. I hope that's alright with you, Aimee. Looking forward to hearing back from you soon.
Yes, I am good.
