When I mute an assignment which has already been graded, will the grade still be calculated into the cumulative score?
Hi carla Christensen Welcome to the worldwide Canvas Community, where fellow Canvas uses exchange information and ask questions! The scores that YOU see will still be dutifully calculated into the Gradebook while you look at it. Students, however, will not see the score, even if you have already graded it. This page (How do I mute or unmute an assignment in the Gradebook? ) covers that information towards the top in one of the Notes:
If you make changes to a muted assignment, the total score as you see it (in both the Gradebook and the student Grades page) will be affected. However, students will not see any changes when they view their Grades page. Once you unmute the assignment, the total grade in the student's view will update accordingly.
But you raise an interesting point about an assignment for which you already input some scores. You want to bear in mind that it is entirely possible some students already saw their grades (assuming it was not muted at all before).
But I can confirm from a test I just now conducted in a test class that everything continues to function just fine. Even if an assignment was scored the student's view of the Grades is unaffected: they see that "mute" icon in the Grade area, but you continue to see the fully calculated score in your view of the Gradebook, as always.
Hope this helps a bit, Carla!
