Is it possible to set a pass/fail percentage for an assignment in Canvas? I need to require 80% to pass and allow the students to proceed in the course.
I would probably need more details to answer your question fully. However, I can offer a few suggestions that could potentially help you. First, you could add the assignment to a module and then add requirements for completion. This would allow you to create prerequisites on modules for students to complete before moving on to the next module. So for example, you can set that students must get at least 8/10 or whatever 80% is for your assignment. This would however limit student from moving on until you grade the assignment and give them a score of at least 8 in this example. The way I have moved around this in the past is making the required element a quiz rather than an assignment that can either 1) auto-grade so students aren't waiting on me to grade, or 2) change the requirement to "must submit" and allow students to move on after submitting the assignment.
For example, the screenshot provided below is of a course I taught last summer. The requirements show up in small gray text below the name of the item in the module, and the prerequisite shows up at the bottom of a module in a small blue box. You'll also see that I have badges added to the bottom of each of my modules (AIM New Recruit & Quiz Key). Setting up your course this way also works well if you want to use Canvabadges to add a gamification elements to your course as earning badges are attached to module completion. There is a great CanvasLIVE session showing how some educators are implementing Canvabadges in their courses: Gamify Your Canvas Course: Challenges and Considerations.
Let me know if I misinterpreted your question, and I can provide you a different response or other ideas to fit your needs. Thanks!
Thanks for the information! I did set up the grade requirements as you mentioned. It worked like a charm!
