I have a cross listed lecture + lab course: two separate courses with two separate final grades, in just one online classroom. I am currently converting it over from Blackboard. In its gradebook, Blackboard allows for creation of calculated final grade columns. So, I created a column that contains all the lecture assignment grades with their respective weighting, and a different column contains all the lab ones. How do I do this in Canvas?
Thanks!
Melissa
Hi melissa. There may be other ways to accomplish what you are looking for, but I would suggest trying the following. Create two assignment groups in the Assignments tab, one for the lecture and one for the lab (How do I add an assignment group in a course? ) Drag all of your lecture assignments into the lecture assignment group and all of the lab assignments into the lab assignment group. In the gradebook, Canvas will still calculate a "final" grade from both of these assignment groups together, but will also give a separate subtotal grade for each. You can weigh the lab and lecture groups as you desire to create the one final grade as well (How do I weight the final course grade based on assignment groups?). What I don't believe you can do now is weigh items in an item group differently, however if your assignments have point values you can give different point values to assignments within each group to accomplish something similar.
Hope this helps!
