Passing along a question from one of our teachers testing the new gradebook, she asks:
Has the ability to see the average grade for an assignment gone away in this new gradebook? I’m having trouble finding that feature and I remember it being there.
I also had an instructor very upset about the loss of the "Assignment Details" tool. I said that the Priority: New Canvas Analytics project was going to provide the details that he was looking for.
I also am really hoping for the ability to see the class average on an assignment or test. With more than 900 students in one course, it is very cumbersome for me to figure out the averages - I would have to download each item into Excel, etc. I looked at the "Analytics 2" project mentioned above. I didn't find it to be enlightening on this topic. It's not entirely clear why a feature that was present in the old Gradebook would have been removed in the new one.
Rebecca, In speedgrader, there is the average score in the top right (I know technically it's not in the gradebook). Hope this helps.
I honestly had never even noticed that feature in the original gradebook until someone asked me about it. The existing Course Analytics tool provides the same information that popped up when you clicked that Analytics link on an assignment. In some ways I think that's a better place to look since you can see grade distributions for all assignments at once. There, you also have the option for a tabular view which I personally find easier to digest than the graphical plot for this particular data.
