I want to allow students to rewrite a paper that was submitted to Turnitin. How do I do that? I want to still check for plagiarism, but don't what everything to get tagged as already having been turned in.
Hi, David! If you are using the older version of the Turnitin integration, you can simply have the students resubmit.
if you are using the newer LTI version where the assignment is setup as an external tool, then go to your first assignment, open up Turnitin, go to the optional settings, tell Turnitin not to store the papers. Next, set up a new Canvas / Turnitin assignment for the revised draft and have students submit.
You can find more details here: Canvas and Turnitin.
Does that help you out?
Thanks, yes, my question concerned the new version, which is not that
well integrated. But as you say, I can have turnitin set to not check
It will still check the papers on the drafts, David. Turnitin simply will not add the rough drafts to its database, which will prevent false positives on the final draft. If you like, there is also a setting to prevent the students from seeing the originality report though.
