Removing the rocket ship icon.
How do I get rid of this icon? I don't know how it published in the first place.
The quiz icon is explained in How do I use the icons and colors in the Gradebook? The icon can mean several things:
Hope that helps!
Hi Tiffany Woods-Long ~
That rocket ship should represent a Quiz that needs to be graded. I do not know of a way to change it (or revert it). I hope there is an easy way to do so, and I hope that another Community member can chime in and help. Until then, have you inquired about this with Canvas Support? (How do I get help with Canvas as an instructor?)
Also, on a related note, these icons will change on January 6th in the new gradebook. See the memo in the Canvas Beta Release Notes (2017-12-18)
I have a similar problem. I wanted to allow students to makeup work for partial credit. Since Canvas does not allow late points, I figured it would be easy to just change the 10 questions from 10 points each to 8 points each. That would make the quiz worth 80% of it's original point value, and I understood that previous grades would be unaffected. Now all of my students have rockets in their grade column and cannot even see their grade to decide if they would like to improve it.
This is very frustrating.
I have the same issue as the others. I changed a grade quiz value to 0 for extra credit purposes. Now all students have rockets. I went into each grade cell, reentered the grade, updated it in Speedgrader, and the rocket is still there. Any other ideas?
Is there an answer to the actual question? I've read the help section and the response and it doesn't say how to remove it, which is the question. Oh, Canvas...
Hi Kevin - Erin provided some feedback that should help on removing the icon. Most of the time, when I run into this issue, there is a question that needs to be graded. When there is even one quiz item ungraded, the icon stays in the gradebook. I also have seen the icon if a quiz has been edited; that's because the score has to be adjusted manually.
I am running into the same issue. I have a quiz - it has not been edited and is multiple choice so it is auto graded. I have tried everything everyone is suggesting to remove the rocket icon and it is not working. I have read theHow do I use the icons and colors in the Gradebook? article and nothing is helping me remedy this issue. Does anyone have any other thoughts or ideas?
My grade book also shows multiple rocket ship icons for unaltered quizzes which have been fully graded. I cannot get rid of the rocket ship and where there is a rocket ship the students cannot see their grade.
I have attached screen captures in hopes to be able to resolve this issue as I have been unable to find any answers.
So the Canvas folks cannot program their product to allow for a quiz that counts as extra credit. They send you a workaround that was developed in Oregon. But then they changed Canvas so that that workaround no longer works. (And yet they send out the same workaround without addressing the cause.) The directions are to add a quiz and then change that quiz to a graded survey once the quiz had closed. If you follow these directions, you get that "airplane/rocket" icon. The comments here and elsewhere by the Canvas folks DO NOT WORK. Caveat emptor.
