I am teaching 2 sections of the same course this semester. I have set up the materials for section A; is it possible to duplicate them for section B? The only thing I can find is importing course materials from a prior semester.
Hi Linda Aleci Welcome to the worldwide Canvas Community! I have faculty do this all the time, and admittedly it can be a bit confusing, since it's easy to assume that the documentation means previous courses. (How do I copy a Canvas course into a new course shell? ) It does not! You should be able to import material from a current course into another version of the same course.
The one issue is your use of the word "section." A "section" in Canvas-speak actually refers to a section within an existing course site. (See this page: How do I add a section to a course as an instructor? ) I believe YOU are referring to the traditional use of a section, so that you want one canvas course site for COURSE XXX, sect. 1 and then a separate Canvas course site for COURSE XXX, sect. 2 In that case, once COURSE XXX, sect. 2 has been created for you--whether by your administrator or automatically as part of a student information systems integration at your campus--you should definitely be able to head into section 2 of your course and then import from section 1, unless (as I said) there is something that is preventing you administratively from doing so. (In which case you should check with your local Canvas person!)
I hope this helps a bit, Linda!
Many thanks! I figured out why I was confused: my courses for this semester appear at the very bottom of the "All Courses" list--out of sequence, in other words. When I scrolled all the way down, I found what I was looking for. Problem solved, I appreciated the nudge to go back and look more closely!
