Hi all,

I'm currently working on a chemistry course in canvas (migrating from blackboard), and I've hit a roadblock on Formula type quiz questions.

I need students to calculate solubility from an equation, however I'm not sure how to input certain equations into the Formula Definition section. I've had no problems with most of the content that just has square root, however I don't know a way to do a cube root or an [n]-root inside the Formula Definition input box. I need these advanced roots to have this question calculate correctly.

Is there a workaround or solution for this issue?

Thanks

Hi Alex King,

Canvas does not have a native nth-root function, but you can use the inverse power to achieve similar results.

The formula in Canvas would be x^(1/n).

I am not sure what Canvas uses for math calculations, but I imagine that it has similar limitations as most programming languages.

First, it can't handle a negative x. Second, this is an approximation of the answer, so it can start being inaccurate when using very large numbers.
