Does a quiz/assignment have to be unmuted for a student to access it? I am being told by a student that they cannot access.
Hello Michelle Strauss Welcome to the Canvas Community, and thank you for posting your question here. In order for Community members to help you more, I think we need some additional information from you about the quiz in question. Can you please check/confirm the following:
Also, regarding muted assignments, that is more for the ability of students to see (or not see) their grades once an assignment has been graded by you. See these two Guides for more details: How do I mute or unmute an assignment in the Gradebook? and How do I mute or unmute an assignment in SpeedGrader?
If you can help answer those questions, that would be helpful...thanks Michelle!
Yes the quiz is published as is the module. I am referring to access after the assignment has been submitted. I have the settings so that the correct answers can be seen by everyone 5 minutes after the due date. I had the assignment muted in the gradebook and apparently the students cannot see the correct answers- I am assuming it is because muting prevents them from seeing feedback which is where the correct answers would be available. Thanks for your feedback.

Hi Michelle Strauss...
Thanks for the reply. Yes, as Kona Jones has pointed out (below):
Muting only prevents students from seeing everything grade, answers, and feedback related to that assignment, quiz, or discussion.
Hope this helps!
Michelle, Chris has provided some great information to help troubleshoot this issue, but to clarify it a bit, students can participate in an assignment that is muted. So being muted does not close or lock the ability to take a quiz, submit an assignment, or post to a discussion. Muting only prevents students from seeing everything grade, answers, and feedback related to that assignment, quiz, or discussion.
Beyond this, I’d work through the questions and info Chris provided. Yet, something else you could check is what you can see as in student view. To do this go to your course settings and click on the “Student View” button on the top right of the page. Then check to see what is available to the students for this quiz.
Good morning, Michelle Strauss...
I have been reviewing older questions here in the Canvas Community, and I wanted to check in with you again. There hasn't been much new activity in this topic since February 10, 2018. Have you had a chance to review the additional feedback that you received from me and Kona Jones? If so, did either of our replies help to answer your question? Or, are you still looking for some help with this question? If you could please come back to this thread to post an update, that would be helpful. For now, I am going to mark your question as "Assumed Answered" because there hasn't been much new activity in this topic since February, but that will not prevent you or others from posting additional questions and/or comments below that are related to this topic. I hope that's alright with you, Michelle. Looking forward to hearing back from you soon.
